The North Glengarry Restaurant

Awesome service and view of the falls on a patio

Built in 1819, the restaurant structure is the oldest standing building in Alexandria. Nicknamed the “Priest’s Mill,” it originally served as a grist mill.

It was built by a Scottish immigrant, Catholic priest Alexander Macdonnell, who inspired the name for the town of Alexandria. Later he became the first bishop of Kingston.

The building remained resilient to multiple fires as it served as a grist, stone, and roller mill over the next 150 years. In the 1970s, the building was renovated into a restaurant, eventually taking on the name you see today: “The North Glengarry.”

The image of the historic mill remains preserved in our picturesque patio, the only one of its kind in the area! Come experience a delicious meal with a view of the old dam and stone waterway. Be serenaded by the peaceful sound of the waterfall, fed by the nearby Garry River and Mill Pond.

Stonehouse Vineyard

Recommended by Joanne Pratt

Stonehouse Vineyard is a five-acre vineyard, situated in a park-like setting, producing wines from cold climate grapes.

All of Stonehouse’s wines begin with attentive viticultural practices applied throughout the growing season ending with hand harvesting grapes; ensuring only the highest quality grapes are processed. Some of their hottest selections of wine go from Swenson White 2018, Frontenac Blanc 2019, Frontenac Gris Rosé 2019, and Frontenac Rosé 2020. All of which are available for tasting.

There is a beautiful aged stone house and a large timber and beam on the grounds. This is followed by scenic views of the surrounding vineyard and farmlands across. The barn has been renovated to pay homage to the Scottish history of the property and region and is the site of their winery and store.

You may also venture out with their availability of tours to view the vineyards and the processing grounds. Finish your time by venturing into their store to bring the alive taste buds back at home.
