Bear Glacier

05

While ice once reached across the road to the rock face, it began receding in the 1940s to create what is now known as Strohn Lake. The glacier continued its retreat, and in 1967, it melted away from the valley wall, and the lake was no longer dammed.

Today, this majestic glacier can be seen from the pull-out on highway 37A. Note – the day-use area in the Bear Glacier Provincial Park has been closed.
