The Trent-Severn waterway is a designated historical site in Ontario. There are many docks, locks, and launches in the area whose facilities are generations old.
The Big Chute Marine Railway is the only one of its kind in all Northern America, utilizing a sling mechanism to move boats around the waterway.
There are grounds nearby for picnicking along the water or participating in boater camping.

Severn is host to several well-maintained and popular cycling trails.
The Carlyon Loop is the easiest relatively, taking cyclists 25 km through residential and countryside streets along the shore of Lake Couchiching.
The next most challenging is the Coldwater Course, a moderate 50 km ride taking cyclists past Bass Lake and back.
The most scenic of the routes, but also the most difficult, is the Upper Big Chute Loop. This trail is 56 km, offering unparalleled views of Severn’s waterways.
