Trent-Severn Waterway Lock 31

The Trent-Severn Waterway Lock 31 is a must-visit landmark while visiting Buckhorn, the Heart of the Kawarthas.

The lock is a unique mechanical device that allows boats to move between waterways of varying heights. It’s exciting and fun to watch.

Additionally, you can fish along the waterfront near the locks but not directly at the locks to avoid any interference.

Adam and Eve Rock

Don’t miss the perfect selfie spot. The legend associated with this place is that if two lovers hold hands and each touch on the rocks, their lives will be blessed!

During the last ice age, these behemoth boulders started rolling their way to this final resting spot close to the shores of Buckhorn Lake and the tourist town of Buckhorn. They rest atop a giant slab of the Canadian shield.

McGinnis Lake

Don’t miss this unique meromictic lake in the Petroglyphs Provincial Park. It’s blue/green colouring gives its secret away as a lake whose water layers don’t mix.

In most lakes, the surface and deep waters mix with one another at least once a year. In a meromictic lake, however, the surface deep waters do not intermix. These unusual lakes create unique colourations and extremely low-oxygen habitats.
