This beautiful lighthouse was erected in 1884, rising just over 40 feet tall. The first keeper was Bruno Perry, who earned $200 yearly, while the last keeper, Edward J. Arsenault, served from 1950 to 1958 with an annual salary of around $2,250—until his new position as the caretaker had his salary plummet to a mere $150. Although several renovations were required throughout the years, the lighthouse maintains its tall, powerful stance today, and it was officially recognized as a heritage place in 2012.
Although Cape Egmont Lighthouse is not open to the public—as in, you can’t go inside—the surrounding view alone is worth visiting.
