La Grande River

La Grande River in northwestern Quebec rises in the highlands of north-central Quebec and flows roughly 900 km west to drain into James Bay. It is the second largest river in Quebec, surpassed only by the Saint Lawrence River.

Look up at the towering dam—as high as a 53-storey building! Marvel at the “giant’s staircase” with ten enormous steps, each the size of two football fields!

No matter where you look, you’ll be amazed by the gigantic scale of this imposing site.

The Robert-Bourassa generating station, formerly known as La Grande-2, is a hydroelectric power station on the La Grande River that is part of Hydro-QuĂ©bec’s James Bay Project in Canada.

In 6 minutes from Belvédère Robert-Bourassa, you will find this fantastic lookout with an amazing view and a great hike.

Be sure to bring comfortable shoes and a camera because the views are breathtaking.
