This dam, formerly known as Manic-5, is the highest multiple-arch and buttress dam in the world.
It was built between 1959 and 1970 for hydroelectric power production, consisting of 14 buttresses and 13 arches. Visitors can admire the beauty of the exterior and interior of Daniel-Johnson Dam in all its glory. The dam’s base is adorned by a crest and has a magnificent view of the Manicouagan River Valley. Additionally, there is a lookout a few minutes away from the dam with a picnic area.
People visiting the dam can get a guided tour that involves a briefing on construction and operations, a visit to the dam, and a bus ride to the dam’s base. These tours are available every 2-3 hours and presented in both languages, with English offered using an audio guide. It is recommended that guests bring a sweater, and closed shoes are mandatory.
