Mile 0 Post

This post in downtown Dawson Creek marks Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway.

The Mile 0 Post was erected in 1946 and is an excellent spot for a selfie, a stretch break or to start your journey on the Alaska Highway. The visitors centre nearby has souvenirs to remember your stop at the Mile 0 Post.

The Alaska Highway begins in Dawson Creek and runs to Delta Junction, Alaska, via Whitehorse, Yukon. People do not use “east” and “west” to refer to the direction of travel; “north” and “south” are used, referring to the south (Dawson Creek) and north (Delta Junction) termini of the highway.

Kiskatinaw Bridge

This beautiful bridge is the first of its kind in Canada, built back in 1942-43. The bridge is still the only one in use today.

This is a perfect picture spot of the unique wooden trestle bridge. The curved bridge offers beautiful views and a rich perspective of the older days. Approximately 500,000 board feet of creosoted British Columbia fir were used to construct the bridge.

N.A.R Station Museum

Located at the original western terminus of the Northern Alberta Railways and the start of the Alaska Highway.

This train station is the only designated heritage building in Dawson Creek. The station part of the museum is arranged as it was when the railway agent and his family lived in it. Four other museum galleries are Pioneer settlement, the railway era, wildlife and natural history and the construction of the Alaska Highway.

The first train arrived at this station in January of 1931.

Pouce Coupe Trestle Bridge

Just outside Dawson Creek is a massive trestle bridge spanning Bissette Creek. Built in 1930 entirely out of wood by the Northern Alberta Railways, this beautiful bridge is great for photos.

The bridge is reported to be 150 metres in length and is an authentic build from its look to its smell.

The trestle is located southwest on Elevator Road or from 51 Avenue off Hwy 2.
