Arrow Lakes Provincial Park

Eagle Creek Site

The Eagle Creek Site is a great little detour for a picnic lunch. It also has a boat launch for extra convenience.

The Arrow Lakes Provincial Park has several sites scattered along the Upper and Lower Arrow Lakes Reserve System. The Arrow Lakes are a widened portion of the Columbia River, which Rises in the Rocky Mountains and then snakes down through the United States before emptying into the Pacific Ocean. The Wide Water reservoir keeps this area retaining moisture in the local atmosphere and moderate winter temperatures, resulting in an area of rich vegetation.

The parks are popular for fishing, with kokanee, dolly varden, and rainbow trout often passing through its waters. Swimming and boating are also popular uses of the Lakes.

Inonoaklin Falls

This waterfall is conveniently located at the foot of Inonoaklin Valley Road, making it a great stop on your way in or out of town.

In addition to being a beautiful waterfall, the site has some historical interests. The location of the falls used to be where old Edgewood was located, but the flooding of the Arrow Lakes in the 1960s forced the town to relocate to its current location.

Granby Provincial Park

This wilderness area offers plenty of options for exploring, including camping, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and swimming in alpine lakes. If you plan to visit in winter, there is backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling to enjoy. The Park has unique nature, with its template climate making it the only rainforest in interior British Columbia. You may spot some mountain goats, grizzly bears, or rare speckled dace fish protected within the park.

The Granby Provincial Park has much to offer and more serene silence than more frequented provincial parks. You can access the north side of the park by taking Highway 6 west and turning off to Needles at Valley Creek.

Inononaklin Creek

This creek snakes through the Inonaklin valley as a refuge and provider to the local wildlife. The word Inonaklin means winding waters. The scenic nature of the creek is a great place to take a stroll and possibly dip your feet in on a warm day.

The creek is top-rated for those who enjoy angling, with plenty of opportunity to catch Rainbow and Eastern Brook trout.

This scenic place to stay is the perfect base for exploring the area’s nature, with all the touches of luxury to make your stay memorable. The cabin and sauna are tucked away in the woods on the bank of a horseshoe-shaped pond, offering supreme privacy and stunning views. Eagle Creek Trail

This trail, also commonly called the Historic Rawhide Trail, was originally used by miners transporting goods from the mountains down to Eagle Creek. Today it is mainly enjoyed by adventurers looking to explore the variety of nature in this area. The moderate hike takes you from Eagle creek to the foothills of Gunward Mountain in Granby Park.

From the trail’s endpoint, there are plenty more trails and hikes to enjoy, or you can start the journey back.

Donselaar Memorial Park

Donselaar Memorial Park at Edgewood is the place of a camp for interned people during World War I

During World War I, the Canadian government enacted the War Measures Act, precipitating the capture and internment of over 8,500 Austro-Hungarian citizens, mostly Ukrainian or of Ukrainian descent. There were also 80,000 Ukrainian citizens who were considered “enemy aliens”; they were tracked and ordered to report to the local authorities across Canada.

The men were forced to labour here under armed guard only because of the nation of their birth.

The camp was opened in the Fall of 1916.

Rare postcards show the Edgewood camp where Ukrainian Canadians were interned during World War I.

In 2009, a memorial plaque commemorating Ukrainian-Canadian imprisonment was unveiled. The tri-lingual plaque is at the entrance to the ball diamond just off Killarney Crescent. To reach the ball diamond, take the small dirt road leading east off of Killarney Crescent, about 30 meters south of where Killarney intersects with Granby Drive.
