World’s Largest Bee

Falher is known as the “Honey Capital of Canada,” so it is only fitting that you can find the “World’s Largest Bee.” Situated in the Bee Park along Main Street, the ‘Bee’ stands 20 feet above the ground and measures 22’8” long and 7’7” in diameter.

The bee statue was built by local welder Richard Ethier in 1990. It represents the thriving beekeeping industry in Falher that produces delicious honey and, at one point, produced 10% of Canada’s honey. Displayed on-site is more historical information that visitors can read up on. When in Falher, the ‘Bee’ is a must-visit and something you will not find anywhere else.

Honey Festival

June

The Honey Festival is a significant main event at Falher once a year for two days during the summer. The festival’s highlight is the “bee beard” demonstration and tradition. What is this tradition, you might ask? Well, with the “bee beard” demonstration, you can witness a host walk into a cage of 30,000 bees! This is definitely something you won’t easily find in another town.

Apart from the famous “bee beard” event, you can also find other attractions for children and adults, including bouncy castles, a petting zoo, live music, a beer garden and much more.

Grandma’s Den Thrift Shop Association

Thrift shops are filled with hidden treasures and a fun experience of journeying that you don’t get to experience often. At Grandma’s Den, donated items such as used clothing, personal items, used furniture, T.V., personal electronics, and household items are collected. When possible, items are refurbished to create something acceptable to be resold to the public.

First opened around 1980, the thrift shop was operated by a group of senior ladies who collected and resold donated items. Grandma’s Den has been overseen by a Board of Directors since 1993, which established a woodworking shop in 1997. A major focus of the shop is providing opportunities for those in the special needs community, such as individuals with developmental disabilities, within the Falher Friendship Corner Association. This includes the experience of operating a store, as well as having training opportunities.

Visit Grandma’s Den to support an organization that is environmentally friendly, sustainable and working for a good cause.
