History
First newspaper in april 1793

The Upper Canada Gazette was the first newspaper to be published in Ontario.

It was produced at Newark (now Niagara-on-the-Lake) for five years before being moved to York (now Toronto). A semi-official and then the official organ of the government, the paper continued in publication under various names until 1845.

Check the plaque on the Queen’s Royal Park.
