High on Ice Winter Festival

The High on Ice Winter Festival is Fort St. John’s signature Winter event! The festival features a variety of winter-themed events, including professional ice carving and ice slides in Centennial Park.

The festival takes place in February.

Fort St. John North Peace Museum

Fort St. John is the oldest European-established settlement in present-day British Columbia. It was established in 1794 as a trading post.

Fort St. John North Peace Museum tells a story of the Fort St. John region, from dinosaurs back in the day to today’s oil and gas industries. Here you can learn more about the Indigenous people, fur trade, homesteaders, and the development of the Fort St. Jhon region as well ask the North Peace region of BC.

Some things to see include a tepee, trappers cabin, blacksmith shop, 1910 BC Police Barracks and Jail, a general store a much more.

Fort St. John Museum also has a gift shop to grab a piece of jewelry or souvenir.

Centennial Park & Festival Plaza

This park is the main community park for locals and visitors. It is located in the downtown core of Fort St. John. The park features many picnic tables, walking paths and a network of hard nature wilderness trails.

Many monuments in the park pay tribute to war veterans and founders of the park. The park has a waterpark, making it ideal for families with young children.

Newly added to the park is the Festival Plaza, which features an open-air building with a capacity of 300 people. The Plaza is used for community engagement and events.

Home Town of Artist Brian Jungen

Brian Jungen is one of his generation’s most highly regarded Canadian artists.

Brian was born in 1970 in Fort St. John. His father was Swiss-born and had moved to the region when he was three years old, and his mother was Aboriginal, a member of the Dane-zaa Nation.

Jungen’s work is in the National Gallery of Canada’s permanent collection of contemporary artists.

Beatton Provincial Park

Beatton Provincial Park is located on the shores of Charlie Lake. This 320-hectare park is a popular summer recreation destination for swimming, fishing and hiking.

Beatton also offers excellent winter recreation opportunities. Experience over 15km of groomed cross-country ski trails. Visitors have a good chance of seeing deer or moose, which frequent the park during the winter.

Charlie Lake Provincial Park

Charlie Lake Provincial Park is situated on the southwestern shore of 13 km long Charlie Lake. Covering some 92 hectares, the park lies within the rolling landscape of the Interior Plains.
