The Fraser River begins from its pristine alpine source in Mount Robson Provincial Park, tumbling down into Valemount with great strength and size. The mighty river in the shadow of the terrific shadow of soaring mountains offers some of the world’s most thrilling white water rafting. Climb aboard a raft, grip tightly onto your paddle, and try to keep afloat as you ride one of nature’s most rambunctious rollercoasters. Various companies offer tours that will take you to everything from class I to class III rapids. If you feel ready to take on the full power of the river, then Beaver River allows you to take on the class V rapids, the biggest in the region. The roaring River makes an undeniable mark across the landscape, being at the heart of a delicate ecosystem that supports the area’s thriving nature and plentiful wildlife. If you’re looking to enjoy it more relaxedly, the river has areas that are great for swimming, canoeing, or fishing.
It also made an impression in Canadian history when 30 000 gold seekers flooded its banks in 1858 in hopes of gold. Some excursions still pan for gold in the river’s waters today, turning away happy with the few tiny flakes they take home. While the chances of walking away with a fortune are very slim, you’ll walk away from your adventures on Fraser River with memories that are golden.
