Open year-round, the Gaspésie Museum or Musée de la Gaspésie houses the history of the vibrant peninsula and Magazine Gaspésie, Québec’s oldest history magazine, all under one roof. With many permanent and rotating exhibitions, the site is the perfect place for families to visit and dive into the evolution of this town. Where The Worlds Meet, a permanent exhibition opened to the public in 2021, displays the peninsula coming to life over 380 million years.
Some of the temporary exhibitions include The Deep Blue Sea, a historic maritime exhibit narrating Gaspésie’s story through the life story of the people of the sea and 15 sailing vessels, La Gaspésienne no. 20, an authentic cod fishing boat and Dear Léo a peek into the studio of Léonard Lapierre, a self-taught artist who worked hand in hand with his environment creating art out of found objects from the sea and land.
The museum also houses the Jacques Cartier Monument, a replica of the cross he erected in 1534, a gift shop selling local products and an archives center.
