Grand Bank Waterfront

Grand Bank is located on Newfoundland’s southern tip of the Burin Peninsula.

The Waterfront has properties dating back to the 1850s, with historic architecture, spectacular ocean views and activities for everyone. The waterfront features tons of small shops, fisheries, and a lighthouse.

Throughout the year, the town hosts many festivals, events and contests, including live entertainment, concerts, dory races, and dances. Traditional Newfoundland food is always served during summer festival events for visitors to enjoy.

Grand Bank Wharf Lighthouse

Built in 1921, the Grand Bank Lighthouse is a concrete octagonal tower on the eastern pier in the harbour.

The tower is 7.1 meters tall and has a rich history, dating back to the 1800s when a lens, lamp and lantern were delivered to Grand Bank to be used to distinguish the Grand Bank port from the house lights. In the 1950’s it used battery power, but since it has been converted to operate on solar energy instead.

Today, the lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction, with a long pier and nearby parks that look out to the lighthouse.

Grand Bank Regional Theatre

This Performing Arts Centre has been open for over 20 years and is a favourite destination among visitors of Grand Bank. Their talented performers put on a variety of shows that change monthly. They have showings in every category, including comedies, mysteries, musicals, and mystery plays.

The venue is beautiful, with a full bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic specialty drinks. Food is also available during the intermission and a variety of desserts.

George C. Harris House

George C. Harris House is a local history museum in the centre of Grand Banks’s historic downtown. The property dates to 1816, and it has been home to many significant local politicians and influential families in the community’s history.

The structure is a three-storied dwelling that looks over the Grand Bank Harbour. It has two chimneys and a steep rooftop. The house gets its name from George C. Harris, one of the most famous businessmen in the town’s history. In 1993 the house became a Registered Heritage Structure.

Southern Newfoundland Seamans Museum

Resourceful and ingenious, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador have made a living from the sea and the land. This exhibition features commonly-used items dating from the 1800s through to now.

The ground floor celebrates our profound connection to the sea. It includes tools of the inshore and offshore fisheries and the merchant operations behind these industries. Artifacts of ships, sailing and navigation are featured.

The second floor presents life on the land. Objects from our agricultural and transportation collections and items related to trades, professions and work in the home are on display.
