Boundary Museum & Interpretive Centre

Overlooking the beautiful land at the historic Fructova Heritage Site is the Boundary Museum and Interpretive Centre, which serves to inform visitors about the important history of the Boundary area.

The staff is amazing and will answer all your questions about the exhibits. For a small entrance fee, you can walk around the museum and explore the different photos and displays that recount the history of the Boundary area. The experience at this museum is quite immersive and will make you feel as though you are viewing Grand Forks through a lens that takes you back in time to a few decades ago.

Big Rock Candy Mountain

Enjoy a scenic hike up the Big Rock Candy Mountain and as a souvenir of your experience, pick up some of the beautiful and unique rocks along the way. You can explore the mountain on your own or participate in a tour group with tour guides that will answer all your questions regarding mining history and this historic mine site. This is a great attraction to visit, whether alone, with friends, or with family.

The abandoned mine site is alongside a beautiful stream, and you’ll be able to find some fluorescent crystals or cool rocks to bring home.

Grand Forks Municipal Campground

For a great camping experience, visit the Grand Forks Municipal Campground. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a staff member who will explain anything you need to know about the area before commencing your camping journey.

Suppose you worry that camping is too different from reality for you, don’t! For a reasonable price, you get access to the beautiful campground, clean washrooms and showers, and Wi-Fi. Everyone is sure to enjoy this campground and can choose to take a scenic walk, go cycling, or take their children to the onsite playground.

Observation Mountain Trail

If you enjoy hiking and want a good workout or a challenge during your stay in Grand Forks, you should definitely check out the Observation Mountain Trail. The route is quite scenic and beautiful, which will provide you with a sense of relaxation. However, don’t be fooled by the scenery! The steep path will have you engaging in a pretty difficult workout. Don’t get too worried, though! Along the trail, some benches are installed at certain checkpoints should you need a break. You also must not forget to stop and enjoy the view.

Gem Theatre

If you want to spend a relaxing evening in Grand Forks, what better way than to stop by the movie theatre? The theatre was opened over 100 years ago, and since then, no changes have been made to its structure. There is only one theatre with 185 seats, and you are not given any options regarding what movie you can see on a certain day. Thus, giving a quite ancient feeling that provides a sense of comfort and coziness.

Grand Forks Beer Company

Make sure you visit the Grand Forks Beer Company during your visit to Grand Forks to get a taste of some locally brewed beer made with local flavour.

The beer is amazing, and you can enjoy it on a nice patio. The staff is just as amazing as the beer they sell, and they can answer any question you may have regarding the local brews. If you would like to accompany your beer with some food, they have some great options, and there is also a food truck outdoors where you will be sure to find a taste that exceeds your expectations.

The Borscht Bowl

The Borscht Bowl is a restaurant you definitely need to visit during your stay in Grand Forks. They serve incredibly authentic Russian food, allowing visitors to gain insight into the Doukhobor culture, which is prominent in the town of Grand Forks.

The restaurant is family-owned, and the friendly staff will be sure to accommodate all your needs as you enjoy a perfect meal. If you want an early or late afternoon lunch, stop by, have a seat, and enjoy the delicious Doukhobor cuisine to fuel up for the rest of your day.

Between the years of 1909 and 1913, a group of pacifist Russian immigrants known as Doukhobors settled in the area because of the fertile farmland. Today, many residents of Grand Forks are descendants of the Doukhobors.

Settle Down Farm

The Settle Down Farm is just a few minutes away from the downtown region in Grand Forks. The farm grows various vegetables and certain fruits such as raspberries and melons.

The owners of the farm, Ann and Ahmed, are super friendly and have spent a lot of time ensuring that all the produce they grow is organic. They are certified with the North Okanagan Organic Association and would love to answer any questions you may have about their practices while you walk around their farm and shop for some fresh produce.

Christina Lake Provincial Park

If you are visiting Grand Forks and looking to spend a nice day on a beautiful beach, you must drive a few minutes to get to Christina Lake Provincial Park. You can take a swim in the beautiful lake that is known as being the warmest in Canada. After your swim, you can enjoy a nice picnic on some tables at the beach, with a wonderful view of the lake and some mountains in the background. This is a great place to visit for family fun or relaxing alone time.

Alpine Taxidermy & Wildlife Museum

Be sure to stop by and take a walk through the Alpine Taxidermy and Wildlife Museum free of charge. Marty Thomas, the owner of this museum, engages in hunting and taxidermy to create a wonderful display of various animal species found throughout British Columbia.

Several of the amazing items in this museum are for sale at a highly reasonable price. The owners are very friendly and will gladly share information about the animal displays while showing you around the museum. If you have children visiting with you, they will be sure to enjoy the experience as well. Just outside the museum, take a walk through the beautiful gardens and if you are up for a challenge, try finding your way through the Cedar Tree maze.
