Sacha’s Park

A park where everyone can play. In honour of their son Sacha, who passed away on June 9th, 2014, at the age of eleven, the Chenier family has created a park that will endure. Sacha was physically incapable of playing at standard playgrounds due to serious physical constraints. or even to enter the recreational areas. The Chenier family decided to create “a playground where no child needs to sit on the sidelines and feel left out” after he passed away. The perfect place for inclusive play is Sacha’s Park.

L’Orignal Moose Statue

The Township of Champlain made a wonderful addition to welcome visitors to the community of L’Orignal. The life-size resin moose statue is situated next to a sign for the village on a beautifully planted podium. The moose pays homage to the village’s name, likely derived from its position on the Ottawa River. It is a friendly-looking creature. Pointe Ă  L’Orignal, which translates to “Moose Point” in French, was the site where moose used to cross the river. Visitors to the region should stop at the statue because it is conveniently located along County Road 17. You can park easily at the diner next to the statue and get a quick bite to eat before leaving.

L’Orignal Range Lighthouses

Nearly halfway between Montreal and Ottawa, L’Orignal is located on the banks of the Ottawa River. The “Most Beautiful Ten Hours Sail on the Continent” tour from Montreal to Ottawa was given by the Ottawa River Navigation Company steamers in the late 1800s for $1.75. Passengers could get off the steamers at the L’Orignal port and board a stage to Caledonia Springs. On the point at L’Orignal, a lighthouse was constructed in 1871 and put into service on October 10. The lighthouse had a white, hexagonal, thirty-foot-tall tower. The nearby McTavish Point Lighthouse and L’Orignal Lighthouse were also constructed at the same time.
