Historic Aurora Train Station

02

On May 16th, 1853, the first train in Ontario hauled by a steam locomotive departed Toronto for Aurora. The station you can visit today was built in 1896 and rebuilt in 1900.

GO Transit uses the former Grand Trunk station for its intended purpose instead of building a new one from scratch.

The station was designated a provincial heritage building in 1971 and was offered further protection in 1990 when it was designated a national heritage railway station. The station has seen minor modifications over the years, but its original architecture remains a fair amount.
