From 1955 to 1969, this church was renovated by the parish priest, Abbé Antonin Simard, and several local volunteers. Together, they would search the forest, gather whatever stumps and branches they could get their hands on, and use those materials to build and reconstruct. There isn’t one inch of any room in this church that its founders haven’t touched, and it is tangible proof of the love and labour that made this beautiful village what it is today.
When visiting, keep an eye out for L’autel du Saint-Sacrement (The Altar of the Blessed Sacrament), La lampe du sanctuaire (The Lamp of the Sanctuary), Le chemin de croix (The Way of the Cross), and La chaise ou Ambon (The Chair of Ambon). There is a quiet power that resonates from the religious symbolism embedded in each piece.
