Historical landmark
The first lighthouse was built here in 1830. The present concrete, octagonal tower on Long Point was completed in 1916. The lighthouse stands 102 feet from its base to the vane atop its lantern, and it originally employed a revolving third-order Fresnel lens to produce a white flash every eight seconds.

As the founding program of Birds Canada, Long Point Bird Observatory offers enriching education and training programs specializing in ornithology and conservation for people of all ages and skill levels while also offering internships and other services for youth.
The Long Point Biosphere Reserve and surrounding area are home to 370 species of birds, 1384 species of plant, 102 species of fish, 46 species of mammals, 34 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 91 species of butterflies.

Backus Heritage Conservation Area provides a scenic and serene journey into nature, whether you’re up to go hiking, camping, fishing, swimming or simply for a casual visit. The camp offers a vast array of campgrounds and even the historic Backhouse Grist Mill, Backus Homestead, and other local heritage buildings dating back to the late 1700s.
