The Township of Champlain made a wonderful addition to welcome visitors to the community of L’Orignal. The life-size resin moose statue is situated next to a sign for the village on a beautifully planted podium. The moose pays homage to the village’s name, likely derived from its position on the Ottawa River. It is a friendly-looking creature. Pointe à L’Orignal, which translates to “Moose Point” in French, was the site where moose used to cross the river. Visitors to the region should stop at the statue because it is conveniently located along County Road 17. You can park easily at the diner next to the statue and get a quick bite to eat before leaving.
