Mabou Harbour Lighthouse

The Mabou Lighthouse is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building because of its historical associations, and its architectural and environmental values.

The Department of Marine announced the completion of a set of range lights to mark the entrance to Mabou Harbour in 1884. Mabou tower was originally one of two lighthouses erected by the Canadian government as range lights to safely guide fishing boats and coastal steamers transporting goods into Mabou Harbour, the only protected harbour on the western side of Cape Breton.

St Mary’s Catholic Church

St. Mary’s Church is one of the main focal points of Mabou. Nestled into the base of a foothill, it can be seen from almost anywhere throughout the village.  The church, with its 143-foot steeple, reflects its image on to the Mabou River.

The parish of St. Mary’s in Mabou is built on four cornerstones of faith, culture family and community. This gothic-style wooden church was opened in 1897 with the celebration of Midnight Mass.

Glenora Distillers

We were North America’s first single malt whisky distillery.

Surrounded by hills, this old-world inn doubles as a malt whisky distillery.

Our story starts in the early 1800s when Scottish immigrants flocked to Cape Breton Island. Its beauty resembled the Highlands and Islands of Scotland so much that they decided to settle here and make it their permanent home.
