These locks are located at the earliest mill site on the Rideau River. The mill was built in 1790. A community was established surrounding the mill, named after William Mirick, who took over the mill.
They are spaced out, with three detached locks, taking advantage of the natural topography.
The 19th-century Rideau Canal is a historic waterway linking a scenic string of rivers and lakes.
Merrickville is known as the “Jewel of the Rideau” and features many beautiful heritage buildings and shops.
