Réserve naturelle du Marais-Léon-Provancher

The Réserve naturelle du Marais-Léon-Provancher is owned by à la Société Provancher (the Provancher Society), which is a charitable organization that is involved in nature conservation. This nature reserve stretches along the St. Lawrence River and Route 138. Open every day, all year, and accessible for free. There is no better place to go if you want to get lost in nature (not lost, of course—there are cross-marked trails to help you easily navigate).

There are forests, wastelands, streams, and riverbanks. This means there is plenty to explore, and even if you visit every day, there will be new things to see and discover each time. Depending on when you go, the palette of the landscape may change, but the scenery will always be beautiful—and you will never feel anything short of content.

Domaine des 3 Moulins

If you are even remotely interested in wine, you must make time for this magnificent vineyard—which also happens to be a 19th-century European-Quebec archeological site. Monick Valois and Pio Bégin acquired the land in 2001, and now there are approximately 10,000 feet of Vine that produce thousands of bottles of wine.

You can come here for amazing wine tastings, relaxed picnics on the terrace, and strolls around the estate. You may become more intoxicated by the beauty and peaceful atmosphere than by the wine.

You can visit during opening hours, but guided tours are only from Tuesday to Sunday (and by appointment). It is always best to contact them to confirm that they are open!

Saint-François-de-Sales

Recommended by Mark

Saint-François-de-Sales is a Roman Catholic church. It was built between 1761 and 1773 using primarily stone.

Saint-François-de-Sales has a very grand nave. Surrounding it are several paintings which depict many religious figures. The nave centralizes around a miniature cathedral that is open as if cut in half. Inside the cathedral are smaller paintings of religious figures. Surrounding the cathedral are four winding pillars going upwards.

The church’s exterior is also unique because if one goes behind the church, one will find several religious paintings plastered on the back of the church.

Cabane à sucre Leclerc

If you desire an authentic, delicious meal in Quebec, you simply must visit the Leclerc Cabin.

They use only high-quality ingredients in their menu items, including pea soup, hearty beans with bacon, fluffy omelets, cabbage salad, their infamous meat pies, and more. Horse-drawn carriage tours are also available, as well as making fresh maple taffy on the snow.

Suppose you are part of a group of 30 people or more. In that case, they can host events like weddings, birthdays, or receptions, and they will provide plenty of activities to partake in, such as various games and even an inflatable castle for kids.

You want to look at their website or contact them to confirm the menu, hours, and reservation requests!

Maison Déry (Site Déry)

The exhibition, “Because of a River,” can be found inside the historic house constructed in 1804. Once you enter the world of this exhibition, it will feel like you went back in time to a summer day in 1909. On this day, you will explore the house, bridge, farm, and river, allowing you to truly feel what life was like for the locals during this time.

From the Déry Site—just a short drive from Neuville—you can also access the Jacques-Cartier Promenade, a 4.6 km trail along the river. The land is mostly flat, so it is considered an easy hike—and kid-friendly!

Gîte Aux Quatre Délices

If you’re looking for standard accommodation with absolute privacy and seclusion, this likely isn’t the place for you. On the other hand, if you’re seeking a homestay-like experience with more authentic human interaction, you will want to book your stay at Gîte Aux Quatre Délices.

There are four bedrooms in total. Three rooms can each accommodate two people, while the larger, more private room on the third floor can accommodate up to four people. Every room is cozy and intimate, with charming décor and warm lighting. There is one bathroom with a shower on the second floor and two partial bathrooms on the main floor (it is important to note that the bathrooms are shared). You can access the fridge, coffee machine, Wi-Fi, TV, and exchange library. You can bring your old books to exchange, too! As a bonus, a small breakfast is served every morning by your host, Vicky.

Boulangerie Pâtisserie Chez Alexandre

This bakery—a very short drive from Neuville—was founded by Alexandre and his father in 2018. Alexandre knew he wanted to be a professional baker since he was eleven years old, and this love and passion for his craft keeps customers coming again and again—both locals and tourists.

The pastries here are flaky, buttery, rich, colourful, creamy… and every other delicious adjective. Although Alexandre’s specialty is pastries, this bakery also offers a variety of bread, pizzas, sandwiches, quiches, and more. Whatever you choose, your palate will thank you. Finally, complete your delectable experience with their freshly roasted coffee.

Chemin du Roy

Chemin du Roy, or the King’s Way, was built in XVIII century to link Québec City and Montreal. Work began in 1731, under the supervision of Grand Voyer (senior road surveyor) Eustache Lanouiller de Boisclerc, and was completed in 1737.

On the banks of the St. Lawrence River, you’ll come across three of the prettiest villages in Québec:

  • Deschambault–Grondines, with its Vieux Presbytère, built in 1815, and the magnificent Église Saint-Joseph;
  • Cap-Santé, proud home to one of the few remaining Québec churches dating back to the French Regime;
  • Neuville, with its heritage homes and gardens overlooking the river.
