The Elliot Lake Nuclear & Mining Museum traces the area’s history starting as early as First Nations settlement and early logging production. Once Elliot Lake was dubbed the “uranium capital of the world.” The city was established in 1955 after the discovery of uranium in the area.
Elliot Lake’s development into a mining community and eventual transition into a world-renowned centre for mine decommissioning is well documented and illustrated. This can be explored alongside documents and artifacts which showcase and celebrate Elliot Lake’s rich community heritage and pride.
The museum is also a northern branch of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame – a dedication to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the mining industry.
