I’m looking for a climbing yellow, fragrant rose with large flowers.
Hi Steph — what a lovely thing to be hunting for! A climbing, yellow, fragrant rose with big blooms is a wonderful combination. A few classics worth asking about:
• Gloire de Dijon — an 1853 climbing old rose, buff-gold, richly fragrant, with large quartered flowers. A true heritage favourite.
• Rêve d’Or — a golden-yellow Noisette climber with a soft tea scent and generous bloom.
• Graham Thomas — a modern David Austin, rich yellow, strongly scented, large-flowered, and easily trained as a climber (a bit hardier if your winters are cold).
One tip: tell the grower your growing zone — the old Noisettes love a mild, coastal climate, while Graham Thomas takes more cold.
