Otterville African Methodist Episcopal Church and Cemetery

02

This church is one of the last black pioneer burial grounds in all of Ontario. It served as a settlement community for several decades for Black people who had escaped slavery and persecution from the United States. As the people in the community relocated over the years, the church and cemetery were deserted and overgrown by nature.

Today, the site has been restored to honour the 140 black pioneers buried there and to mark the location of the Church.
