Canso Canal

A sightseeing spectacle in Port Hawkesbury, the Canso Canal is located in the Strait of Canso, on the eastern side of the Canso Causeway. You can also observe the Canso Canal Bridge, found here. The bridge carries a railway line and the Trans-Canada Highway across the canal. Driving across this bridge is a visual delight! You can also take in the picturesque view by foot along the pedestrian causeway. Other activities here include sightseeing and shore fishing. Visit this location and take in the beauty of this beautiful town!

Port Hawkesbury Community Trails

A genius trail system located in the heart of Port Hawkesbury, the Port Hawkesbury Community Trails are a collection of all-season trails for everyone! This 10-kilometre system consists of five main trails: Hemlock Trail, Maple Trail, Spruce Trail, Tamarac Trail and Centennial Woodland Trail. The trails are filled with marvellous wildlife, a wide range of plants, softwood forests, brooks, streams, rest areas and sidewalks. Pets are allowed but must be leashed within 200 meters of the entrance and exit areas. Activity ideas include hiking, skiing, sightseeing, biking, running and even photography! Come here to immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery of this town’s nature.

Port Hawkesbury Community Park

A place for the whole family, the Port Hawkesbury Community Park is home to many amenities for a fun-filled day. The park has been recently renovated with many things added to it. There are basketball courts, a playground, a splash pad, rope obstacles, a soccer field, a jungle gym and a tennis court. Washrooms and changing rooms are also available within the grounds to facilitate visitors to the splash pad. A playbox with toys and sports equipment has been added to make the experience more enjoyable for visitors. The playground and courts are open year-round, while the splash pad is open daily from June to September, 10 am to 8 pm. It is recommended that children under 12 be accompanied by an adult. Onsite washroom & change facilities are available.

J. Franklin Wright Gallery

A community gem, the J. Franklin Wright Gallery is a local cultural space for artists from all over to showcase their works. Anybody can submit their work to be displayed upon the art gallery selection committee’s approval.

Typically, each show runs from six to eight weeks. From May to June, the gallery is reserved for the student art show, and no artists from students showcase their work during that time. The gallery also allows visitors to buy the art depending on whether or not the artist is showcasing their work with the purpose of selling. Visit this cultural treat showcasing the talent of this town.
