This historical lighthouse began operating in 1840 with the help of its keeper, William Swetman, who stayed the keeper until 1871, when he died at age 86. His grandson became the next keeper to continue in his grandfather’s footsteps. Since then, this 69-foot octagonal stone tower has had many keepers and visitors.
The Presqu’ille Point Lighthouse has located 11.8 km from Brighton and makes for a perfect tourist location. Visitors can see the lighthouse up close and visit the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, which is located in the vicinity of the lighthouse and is open between July and August.
