Around the Town of Redcliff, there are 25 rock monuments that paint a picture of the town’s past.
Once known as the “Smokeless Pittsburg of the West,” Redcliff was the industrial core of Alberta from 1910 to 1914. In August 1912, the town’s population was only 750, but this number rapidly jumped to an estimated 2,400 by 1914. However, many industries soon had to cease operation between 1913 and 1915 due to fires, cyclones, and other issues.
The rock monuments, placed by the Redcliff Museum, are located near the industries it displays. Their goal is to let visitors of Redcliff realize what an industrial, thriving community it once was.
