Saint-Louis Mission National Historic Site is a 2-hectare archaeological site that marks where the stockaded village of the Ataronchronon group of the Wendat stood in the 1640s. The village and the neighbouring Saint-Ignace were stormed by a Haudenosaunee war party on March 16th, 1649, and Jean de Brebeuf and Gabriel Lalement were captured and put to death.
This raid sealed the fate of the Wendat confederacy in the area. The site lay untouched until it was investigated in the first half of the 20th century.
