Dedicated to J.R. Smallwood and the history of Gambo. Contains artifacts, memorabilia and video of the Smallwood era and the history of Gambo; its connection with the railway, the logging industry and the events of 9/11.
That day in 2001, the nearest town, Gander played host to 38 airliners, totalling 6,700 passengers. Some of them were transported to Gambo, to the shelter at St. George’s Anglican Church.
The Centre boasts a gift shop, a waterfront picnic, fishing or kayaking area on the Gambo River, tours of the Dominion Trail, boating tours of Freshwater Bay and is host to the “Just Imagine” dinner theatre based on the actual events of 9/11 in Gambo. This is an essential part of the Gambo experience!
