History

The Springhill Miners’ Museum shows off the history of Springhill and its industrial heritage. The first industrial coal mining in the area took place in the 1870s. The coal mine was once a thriving operation, but a series of tragic events led to its eventual closure.

It’s even possible to enter some of the mines (no open-toed shoes or kids under 4 allowed underground). The museum is filled with artifacts and memorabilia that tell the incredible story of Springhill and the coal mines.
