Stephenville Regional Museum

This eclectic museum/historical society is the perfect stop for anyone curious about learning more about the history surrounding Stephenville. The Historical Society also is the home to the Rotary Club of Stephenville.

The museum also offers many learning opportunities through the different displays, including the schoolhouse room, the military display, and the Indigenous Art displayed throughout the museum.

Stephenville Theatre Festival

July – August

Stephenville Theatre Festival is the longest-running theatre festival in Newfoundland. The festival was established in 1979 by Maxim Mazumdar, a well-known Canadian actor and director.

During its decades of operation, many of this province’s best-known actors, musicians, directors, and production personnel have received their start or honed their craft at STF. The Festival has provided training opportunities and a hands-on experience for hundreds of artists, many of whom are now counted among Canada’s top professionals.

Barachois Pond Provincial Park

Just about 20 kilometres from Downtown Stephenville, this beautiful provincial park has activities for the whole party, including fishing, camping, bike trails and bird watching. This provincial park also hosts annual seasonal events that are sure to inspire you to want to visit the park again.

Stephenville Regional Aquatic Center

The Stephenville Regional Aquatic center is a multi-use facility which opened in 1994. It is located at 20 Tennessee Drive and is a great option for physical activity in Stephenville. Containing a 6-lane competitive pool, a junior pool, a tots pool and a whirlpool, there is plenty of opportunities for various activities.

The aquatic center offers lessons for both children and adults, as well as fitness classes. If you’re looking for a year-round location to relax in the water, this is definitely the place.

Arts and Cultural Center

The Stephenville Arts and Cultural Center was originally created for the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in 1975, but today, it is equipped with two performing arts locations.

This 447-seat theatre has been an integral part of Stephenville’s arts culture. They host various performers of all kinds, including their own production company that provides opportunities for artists facing difficulties. There is always something playing for the whole family at The Stephenville Arts and Cultural Center; check the website for more information on upcoming events.

Whaleback Nordic Ski Club

If you’re visiting Stephenville in the winter, it is worth checking out the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club. Located 4 km from the Town of Stephenville, the Whaleback Nordic Ski Club offers both members and visitors 21 km of beautifully groomed trails designed for skating and classic skiers of all skill levels. There is also a 2.5km illuminated trail for snowshoeing and various hiking trails for the warmer months.
