Bread and Honey Festival

The first weekend of June

The Bread and Honey Festival is a personal recommendation from the page creator and a must-visit if you’re in Streetsville at the time.

The festival has been held annually on the first weekend of June since 1973 and is a non-profit event that invests the proceeds back into the community. In 2022, the festival committed $35,000 of funding to food services and meal plans and to support local artists.

The Bread and Honey Festival is inspired by the flour mill that the Streetsville founder, Timothy Street, had built in the town in 1821. The festival is set up across a 30-acre site in the Streetsville Memorial Park. It has several selling points, including rides, a beer stage, a parade, a petting zoo, a home and trades show, and most importantly: tents set up to serve bread and honey to all festival attendees!

Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour

Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour is Streetsville’s mark of summer. Residents from Streetsville and neighbouring towns flock to Murphy’s Ice Cream Parlour at the first sign of warm weather, and the parlour is a sort of town tradition for many residents. Every Streetsville local has been to Murphy’s at least once, if not many more times. Moreover, its location next to Village Square makes it the perfect summer stop during town events!

Swirls by Michelle & Miranda

Another local bakery, Swirls, prides itself in being Mississauga’s “First and Only Cupcake Shop.” Although the store also sells cookies and cakes, its focus is on cupcakes (and mini cakes, in the case of mini cheesecakes). They offer numerous dessert boxes for order, including a ‘Father’s Day Cupcake Set,’ a ‘Spooky Cupcake Set,’ and a ‘Canada, Eh! Cupcake Set’, and a ‘Treat Yo Self Box,’ among many others.

Lucky for customers with dietary restrictions, the bakery sells 100% nut-free, gelatin-free, alcohol-free, and sesame-free products, meaning that these cupcakes truly are for everyone!

The Tea Room

The Robinson-Bray House is a Streetsville home built in 1885 that has been renovated to house several independent businesses. Among these businesses is The Tea Room, a British tea tradition-inspired shop by Rhonda Turner in 1989. Almost 30 years later, the Tea Room is now owned by Nina Graham, but the tradition continues.

The shop sells a large selection of take-home teas, and their dining room offers tea services, including a High Tea, a Robinson Bray Tea, and a Tea Room Medley. Come by for the cozy tea experience or to buy a bag of antioxidant tea.

Streetsville Village Square

Last but not least on this list is Streetsville Village Square. Central to Streetsville’s Old European town atmosphere, the Village Square is at the center of the town and is a beloved community gathering spot. On ordinary days, locals can come by the area to relax on the benches and table set-ups while enjoying food and desserts from nearby shops.

On special occasions, the Square is the town’s go-to event space and hosts events, including annual events like season’s celebrations and Christmas functions, as well as occasional events such as ‘Salsa in the Square.’ With Square events taking place throughout the year, it’s always a good time to drop by the Streetsville Village Square!
