History

The Swiss Air Monument is dedicated to the 229 individuals who lost their lives in the Swiss Air crash on September 2, 1998. The crash happened eight kilometres to the coast of Peggy’s cove.

The monument has been established in dedication to the victims as well as the rescue workers who assisted in helping clean the wreckage and look for survivors. A short walking trail of about 160m leads to a large monument in memory of the survivors.
