History

Focused on the heritage and history of Sydney Mines, this museum presents and explores the various treasures and trademarks unique to Cape Breton. In recognition of the town’s history in coal mining, there is a collection of artifacts common to that area that are available for visitors to view. Another exciting exhibit is the restored train station from the early 1900s.

The Cape Breton Fossil Centre, adjacent to the Heritage Museum, features one of the largest Carboniferous Plant Fossil collections in all of North America – composed of over 800 plant fossil displays.
