This is a work of art in Peggy’s Cove, carved by William E. deGarthe to capture a “lasting monument to Nova Scotian fishermen”.
William was born in Finland and immigrated to Canada in 1926. He spent many springs and summers in his home in Peggy’s Cove.
This is done on a 30-metre-long granite rock behind William’s house in Peggy’s Cove. Specifically, on the sculpture, there are 32 fishermen, their children and wives, St. Elmo with his wings spread, and the iconic Peggy of Peggy’s Cove.
