The long great sandy beaches bring perhaps the most famous visitor here every year, the Piping Plover.
The piping plover is an endangered animal that is rarely seen anywhere, most sightings have been in the Grand Marais area which draws a large crowd of bird watchers and nature lovers alike. Best described as a small, pale, short-beaked and stocky bird with white and sandy coloured underparts.
