Pinawa Heritage Suspension Bridge

The Suspension Bridge allows us to appreciate and discover the natural beauty of the Pinawa district on this part of the Trans Canada Trail.

The bridge is 54 meters long and 1 meter wide. The bridge is a part of a loop of interpretive walks, casual fishing, and cross-country skiing.

It was built by volunteer labour under the direction of the Pinawa Trails Group, and it is known as the “Labour of Love” by the community of Pinawa. It completed the building in 1998 and had its grand opening on May 24th, 1999.

Deer Capital of Manitoba

Being the Deer Capital of Manitoba almost guarantees to see a white-tailed buck in the fall or a doe nursing fawns in the spring so keep your camera loaded and ready to roll. Five deer in the backyard is a common sight there.

Pinawa Heritage Sundial

A sundial is a fascinating instrument. Sundials date back to about 1500 BC when L-shaped sundials were used in Egypt.

The Sundial is a horizontal dial that stretches 10 square meters with a gnomon 5 meters high and is specifically designed for the latitude and longitude of the site.

It incorporates the 12 heritage icons that depict the Eastman region, themes of the First Peoples, La Verendrye, the fur trade, the development of hydroelectric power, industry research, as well as others. The structure teaches visitors how you can tell time on one of the world’s oldest timepieces.

The Sundial is located in the heart of Pinawa overlooking the Winnipeg River.

Pinawa Dam

Located on the Winnipeg River, Pinawa Dam was Manitoba’s first hydro-electric generating station.

The station began delivering power in 1906. It was closed in 1951 to allow the full flow of the Winnipeg River to serve the Seven Sisters Hydro Station built downstream.

Pinawa Dam Provincial Park was designated a provincial park by the Government of Manitoba in 1985
