Columbia River Skywalk

Columbia river skywalk is one of the longest suspension bridges in North America. The bridge is built on the Columbia river and has beautiful scenery.

The bridge connects Rotary park and McQuarrie Street. Moreover, the bridge structure resembles the vast Trans Canada Trail’s Great Trail network. The bridge is walking, biking, stroller and wheelchair friendly. Columbia river skywalk is an excellent place to enjoy the view of water, mountains and the park.

Columbia Gardens Vineyard and Winery

Columbia Gardens Vineyard and Winery have a great selection of wine. The wine can be sampled for free of charge at the burl tasting room of the Columbia Gardens Vineyard and Winery. In addition, it has a gift shop where wine is on sale. However, the wine is sold throughout Kootenay in multiple liquor stores outside this winery.

Interestingly, this place not only sells wine but also hosts small events and weddings for up to 50 people. As a special, they host summer picnics in the vinery, which include a delicious picnic basket with a bottle of wine.  In addition, they have guest houses to stay in and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the vinery. The guest house has WIFI and other kitchen utilities.

It is a great place to stay, host small events and enjoy a wide variety of wines.

Royal Theater

Royal Theater was built in 1927 and is one of the oldest buildings in Trail city. The theatre is open seven days a week. It is a clean, safe and inexpensive place to watch a movie. The theatre not only screens movies but also runs metropolitan operas, Bolshoi ballets, musicals, and art houses.

Also, it has special screenings that are baby-friendly and sensor-friending to people experiencing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The place can also be booked for parties. The theatre is very inclusive to all people and runs a variety of screenings. The theatre has something for everyone to enjoy.

Trail Museum and Archives

Trail Museum and archives opened in 2018; It is free of cost. The trail museum and archives are located in the building of the visitor center and library. The trail museum and archives have three galleries, an extensive archival holding and a gift shop for local history souvenirs. The trail historical society hosts compelling exhibits and educational programming—a great place to learn the history of Trail city.

Beaver Creek Provincial Park

Beaver Creek Provincial Park is an 89 hectares park located along the eastern bank of the Columbia river. The provincial park is surrounded by residential lands and the Trail airport. This park is known to support and protect the habitat of some rare and endangered species.

The park has campgrounds, picnic areas and a playground. The provincial park offers activities like canoeing, fishing, cycling, hiking and wildlife viewing—a great park for camping and many more activities to explore.

Home Town of Walkie-Talkie Inventor Donald Hings

Donald L. Hings, an engineer and inventor, equipped the Canadian and British military with an early version of the portable two-way wireless radio (walkie-talkie) during the Second World War.

Born in Leicester, England, he moved to Canada with his mother and father when he was three.

In 1937 Donald Hings created a portable radio signalling system for his employer CM&S, which he called a “packet” but later became known as the “Walkie-Talkie.” He was working at Cominco in Trail, British Columbia.

Visac Gallery is a non-profit gallery that supports and promotes Kootenay artists. It offers about eight diverse exhibitions a year. Visac Gallery is a popular place for emerging artists. The gallery also provides programs for all ages. It offers art, pottery, and rock and gem classes that teach cutting, polishing and engraving various stones. A great place to support the local artists and to learn new artistic skills.

Columbia River Valley Viewpoint

A beautiful scenic viewpoint. The outlook is of the beautiful Kootenay mountains and the Columbia river. A small hike to get to the viewpoint and enjoy the beautiful view. It is a great place to take pictures or enjoy a peaceful time.

Wolf’s Den on the River

A getaway for adults that is adult-oriented and 420-friendly. Wolf’s Den on the river has great rooms with an inground pool and hot tub outside the guest rooms with a nice river and mountain view. Each room has a private entrance, smart tv, free Wi-Fi, and a private ensuite. This place also has a bar called ‘loose n Easy sunset bar’ that welcomes guests to bring their food.

Not just a great place to stay, but it also provides various activities to enjoy. They have winter sports like snowshoeing, sledding, hockey, curling, and cross-country skiing, which is minutes away. More activities like hiking, biking, golfing, boating tours, fishing and guided fishing are also provided.

Gyro Park

Gyro Park is a community park that is located along the Columbia River. This park is known for recreational activities and festivals like music in the park series, the annual polar bear Swim and much more. Gyro park has picnic areas, a sandy beach, a walking park, a playground, a spray park and an excellent viewpoint for sitting. Swimming and river fishing are also allowed in the Columbia River.

Elder Trail

The Elder Trail is a 2.3km loop, which takes about an hour of hiking. It is an excellent trail for bird watching and exercise as it is a steep trail. The Elder trail has a beautiful view of mountains and the Columbia river.
