Trenton is the starting point of the Trent-Severn Waterway connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Huron!
It is a must-see! The major waterways include Trent River, Otonabee River, Kawartha Lakes, Lake Simcoe, Lake Couchiching, and Severn Rider.
The waterway has a fascinating history as it was originally surveyed as a military route, with its first lock created in 1833. However, after the Upper Canada Rebellion, the government was left to reexamine the route and ultimately determined it was not suitable for military use. It was then used as a political tool to gather votes and eventually became a commercial waterway.
Today, it is one of Ontario’s major tourist attractions due to its pleasing boating route.
