Dedicated to fostering diverse perspectives on photography and lens-based media, the philanthropic, non-profit Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography was founded by artists for artists. Gallery 44’s mission is to provide a platform for meaningful contemplation and discussion on contemporary photography. Gallery 44 was founded in 1979 to create a supportive atmosphere for the development of artistic practice.
By showcasing diverse practices that engage in relevant and critical investigations of the medium, Gallery 44 is devoted to programs that reflect the always-evolving notion of photography. Our goal is to examine the artistic, cultural, historical, social, and political ramifications of the image in our rapidly increasing visual world through exhibitions, public interaction, educational programs, and production facilities.
