Joshua Kutryk was named Canada’s newest astronaut as the country marked its 150th birthday.
Kutryk was born in 1982 in Fort Saskatchewan. He was raised on a cattle farm in eastern Alberta. He enjoys backcountry skiing, cycling, mountaineering and paragliding. Attending St. John XXIII Catholic School till Grade 3, Kutryk knew deep down he wanted to go to space.
Kutryk was one of two recruits selected by the Canadian Space Agency in July 2017 through the fourth Canadian astronaut recruitment campaign.
