Known in Inuinnaqtun as Iqaluktuuttiaq — "good fishing place." On the south coast of Victoria Island, Cambridge Bay is a hub for Arctic wildlife, tundra wildflowers in July, and 79 species of birds. Nunavut Day celebrations in July feature throat singing, fiddle music, and muskox burgers.

Baker Lake
The nearest inhabited community to the geographic centre of Canada. Baker Lake is an inland Inuit community known for its art — the Jessie Oonark Centre displays local talent and honours one of the true pioneers of Inuit art, who was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1984.

Chesterfield Inlet
A small community on the west coast of Hudson Bay, known for beluga whale watching, polar bears, and caribou herds. The Leonard Putulik Cultural Visitor's Centre tells the story of Inuit life in the region. One of the oldest settlements in the Kivalliq area, with roots going back centuries.

Kinngait
The Capital of Inuit Art. Formerly known as Cape Dorset, Kinngait has been the heart of Inuit printmaking and carving since the 1950s. Kinngait Studios releases an annual print collection that is sold internationally. The Kenojuak Cultural Centre and the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative keep the tradition alive.

Nunavut's capital and largest community, on the shores of Frobisher Bay. The Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum, the Igloo Cathedral rebuilt by volunteers after a 2005 fire, Carvings Nunavut — Canada's largest gallery of authentic Inuit art — and the Black Heart Café, an Iqaluit favourite for local Inuit food.
