Parc Mathieu was named in honour of Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Mathieu (1907-1976), commander of the troops of the Régiment de la Chaudière in Normandy, on June 6, 1944.
Along with the beautiful rest areas and floral arrangements, there is the Régiment de la Chaudière Cenotaph erected in 1990 in memory of the 241 missing from the Régiment de la Chaudière during World War II, an interpretation panel from the Sites of Memory / Interpretation of the Chaudière Valley project (piloted in 2010 by the Marius-Barbeau Museum), and the Dutch-Canadian Friendship Tulip Garden. Don’t miss this important piece of the town’s history.
