Route 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, passes the south side of the city on a high ridge before descending to the east into the Humber Valley.

The Trans-Canada Highway is a transcontinental federal-provincial highway system that travels through all ten provinces, from the Pacific Ocean on the west coast to the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast.
