The church that gave the village its name is a landmark on the main street. A monumental bell stands outside, and the building anchors the community just as it has since the 19th century.
Saint-Jovite was formally established as a parish in 1879, settled by priest Antoine Labelle. The railway arrived from Montreal in 1892, and the town grew from there.

Even if you don’t go inside, the church and its surroundings are a pleasant stop and a reminder that this village has roots stretching back nearly 150 years.
