Saint-Jovite is the beating heart of the Mont-Tremblant area — the place where locals live, work, and eat. Officially, it’s now “Downtown Mont-Tremblant,” but older residents and regulars still call it by its original name.
The town was established as a parish in 1879 by priest Antoine Labelle, a legendary figure who opened up the Laurentian backcountry to settlement. The railway from Montreal arrived in 1892, and Saint-Jovite grew as a service centre for the surrounding lumber and farming communities.
For over a century, it’s been the year-round town behind the seasonal resort.
If you’re visiting the Mont-Tremblant area and only eat at the resort, you’re missing the best food in the region. Come downtown. The locals know what they’re doing.
