Welcome to Beaver Creek Sign

Stop and take a picture at the Beaver Creek welcome sign while you make your way into town. As the sign will tell you, you are as west as it gets, this being the westernmost community in Canada. Like all communities along the Alaskan Highway, it has a rich history of indigenous culture and traditions.

This sign also depicts the only beaver you will likely see on your trip. While this portion of the Alaskan highway is teeming with wildlife such as eagles, moose, and bears, you aren’t likely to spot a beaver.

Snag Junction Campground

This campsite sits 15 minutes outside of beaver creek and is the most western campsite in the Yukon. It is its most highly rated campsite, catering to campers in RVs and tents. The camp experiences its peak in popularity between May and September, with travellers stopping on their way in and out of Alaska.

The campground is a great place to stay to immerse yourself in the nature of the Yukon. Visitors are lucky to get frequent spotting of wildlife, such as waterfowl and northern hawk owls. The campground area is filled with circular lakes welcoming you to a wake-up dip. The spruce that sprout up in this area of the forests lean at strange angles due to the effects of growing in permafrost. When staying at the Snag Junction Campground, you become part of nature.

Beaver Creek River

This river has its headwaters in the white mountains of Alaska, where it then flows to the Yukon Flats before joining the Yukon River. The River has a gentle flow and clear waters, making it a popular destination for River Adventures. Many people begin on the river in Alaska and spend between 7 days and three weeks floating down it. The river has some gorgeous scenery of nature and wildlife. It is not uncommon for people journeying along the Beaver Creek Scenic River to spot northern lights. Going for a float along the river or a walk along its banks is a great way to spend time in this western town.

Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church

Our Lady Grace is a Catholic Church sitting along the Alaskan Highway. This is one of the most unique buildings in Beaver Creek. It was constructed in 1962 by Father Morriset. The building was constructed using an old Quonset hut left over by the US Army.

It is quite a sight situated in the beautiful nature of this remote town and is proof of local ingenuity. The church is open for mass on Sundays for those looking to drop by for a service.
